The Faculty of Communication Sciences (Fikom) at Untar officially launched its Master of Communication Science program on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Auditorium Hall of the Main Building, Untar. The event was attended by the Rector of Untar, Prof. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., the Chairman of the Tarumanagara Foundation Board, Prof. Dr. Ariawan Gunadi, S.H., M.H., university and faculty leadership along with staff, and the Fikom Untar community. The opening of this program marks a strategic step to address the rapid advancement of communication science.
“The establishment of the Master of Communication Science program also enhances Untar’s reputation as one of the best private universities in Indonesia,” said Prof. Amad. He expressed hope that the program, which begins its academic activities early next year, would be well-managed, develop sustainably, and make a significant contribution to the field of communication science.
Prof. Ariawan, who was present at the event, emphasized the importance of innovation in communication science to meet the needs of the younger generation, particularly Generation Z, especially in the realm of digital communication. “We must adapt to the times. The establishment of the Master of Communication Science program at Fikom Untar is a remarkable achievement,” he stated.
“In my observations during visits to leading universities abroad, communication science remains a highly sought-after discipline. It is crucial to combine communication science with other fields to meet the evolving needs of society,” he added.
The Dean of Fikom Untar, Dr. Riris Loisa, M.Si., stated that the Master of Communication Science program at Untar is designed with a focus on the values of Humanism, Entrepreneurship, Professionalism, and Integrity. Grounded in these values, graduates are expected to innovate in addressing the increasingly complex challenges in the communication field, especially with the rapid development of digital communication.
As part of the event, Fikom Untar invited Dr. Riant Nugroho, M.Si., CBA, an Expert Staff to the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs of Indonesia. He delivered an inspiring lecture encouraging participants to understand the dynamic evolution of communication science as it faces the challenges of an era of uncertainty.
Following the lecture, a special performance by Visca Alam, a student of Fikom Untar, showcased a medley of traditional songs, enlivening the atmosphere. Additionally, two Fikom Untar alumni, Lydia Irena, S.I.Kom., M.Si., and Tiyo Sajdahfath, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom., shared valuable insights about pursuing postgraduate studies, the challenges faced, and tips on balancing work and graduate school.
