The Faculty Student Activity Unit (UKMF) Oranye Fikom Untar conducted a comparative study and visit to the Autonomous Body Economica (BOE) of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI), on Tuesday, March 12, 2025, at UI. This activity aimed to broaden insights, exchange experiences, and strengthen networks between organizations in the field of journalism.
Journalism education is crucial for communication science students as it provides an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles of composing, presenting, and analyzing information objectively and accurately. Through this education, students can refine their news writing skills, conduct interviews, and comprehend the ethics and responsibilities of disseminating information. In the digital era, where information flows rapidly, journalistic knowledge helps students distinguish facts from misinformation while developing critical thinking skills. Moreover, journalism skills are valuable assets for students pursuing careers in communication-related fields, such as public relations, media, and content creation, which require clarity and credibility in message delivery.
As communication technology and digitalization evolve, students are expected to grasp various aspects of news production and media management. Through this activity, UKMF Oranye members had the opportunity to learn about campus media management strategies, journalistic practices, and challenges faced by student journalism organizations at UI.
The comparative study event was attended by members of UKMF Oranye and BOE, accompanied by Fikom Untar Lecturer Representative Diah Ayu Chandraningrum, S.T., M.B.A, M.Si. The event itinerary included an organizational introduction session, interactive games, and discussions where members exchanged experiences. Beyond being a platform for knowledge exchange, this event also paved the way for potential collaborations between the two organizations to foster journalism innovation in campus media.
Through this comparative study, it is hoped that UKMF Oranye members can gain new insights applicable to their organizational management. This event serves as an initial step toward building stronger cooperation between journalism organizations in various universities, fostering a more innovative and adaptive campus media environment in the future.
