Jakarta, May 30, 2025 — Six lecturers from the Faculty of Communication Science (Fikom) at Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) carried out a Community Service (PKM) program at SMA Santo Yakobus, North Jakarta, on Friday (May 30). The program targeted high school students through educational and interactive approaches, including seminars, workshops, and classroom discussions themed around communication, culture, and creativity. The PKM activities were divided into four classes, each guided by Fikom Untar lecturers with distinct but complementary themes and teaching methods.
In the first class, the Secretary of the Undergraduate Communication Science Program at Untar, Dr. Wulan Purnama Sari, M.Si., together with Sisca Aulia, S.I.Kom., M.Si., led a session titled “Artifactual Communication and Personal Branding.” Through an interactive seminar and a personal grooming workshop, students were encouraged to understand the importance of building a positive self-image through visual and performative symbols of communication.
The second class was led by the Head of the Undergraduate Communication Science Program at Untar, Dr. Sinta Paramita, S.I.P., M.A., who facilitated a decorative plant terrarium workshop. In this session, students learned to explore environmental communication values and self-expression through the creative activity of arranging plants in glass containers.
In the third class, Fikom Untar lecturers Septia Winduwati, S.Sos., M.Si. and Lydia Irena, S.I.Kom., M.Si. presented a session on “Cultural Communication & the Philosophy of Indonesian Batik: Intangible Cultural Heritage and Responsible Environmental Communication.” The class explored batik as a meaningful form of cultural communication and emphasized the importance of preserving cultural and environmental heritage. Students were encouraged to engage in environmental communication through their own social media platforms, campaigns, and creative events.
Meanwhile, the fourth class, led by Diah Ayu Candraningrum, S.T., M.B.A., M.Si., explored a popular topic among teenagers—communication and gamers. The session invited students to discuss the dynamics of communication in the world of digital gaming and how to build healthy and productive relationships in virtual spaces.
The PKM event was conducted in an active and enjoyable atmosphere. Students participated enthusiastically in all sessions, which not only provided knowledge but also practical skills and reflections on social and cultural values.
“Through this program, we aim to provide a learning experience that is applicable, enjoyable, and relevant to students’ everyday lives,” said Dr. Wulan Purnama Sari. She added that the initiative is a tangible contribution from higher education institutions in shaping a generation that is creative, ethical, and communicatively aware.
This activity also strengthens the collaboration between Fikom Untar and secondary education institutions, as part of the university’s commitment to supporting sustainable education and early character development. (LI)
