NEGERI SEMBILAN, MALAYSIA – A total of 17 students from the Faculty of Communication, Universitas Tarumanagara (Fikom Untar), participated in a one-week Student Mobility Program at INTI International University, Malaysia, held from September 13–19, 2026. Accompanied by two Fikom Untar lecturers, the program provided students with the opportunity to gain international academic experience while expanding their networks with students and institutions from various countries.
On the first day, the program was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Asokan Vasudevan, Director of the International Relations and Collaboration Centre (IRCC) at INTI University Malaysia. According to him, the Student Mobility Program is one of the initiatives that supports sustainable development by bridging global communities and promoting equality and community empowerment.
The first day also introduced students to the environment of INTI International University, located in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan. They toured various campus facilities, including the library, which offers a wide range of collections and learning support facilities, as well as a media laboratory equipped with modern and comprehensive technology. The international atmosphere was immediately evident from the start of the program. During the campus orientation, Fikom Untar students met and took photographs with students from Riara University in Nairobi, Kenya, who were also participating in the Student Mobility Program.
One of the participants, Tracy Zagitania, stated that the Student Mobility Program was a valuable opportunity to experience learning in an international environment firsthand. “The opportunity to participate in this Student Mobility Program is a valuable international experience that allows me to learn and build connections with students studying at INTI International University,” said Tracy.
Following the campus introduction session, Fikom Untar students attended a lecture delivered by Dr. Saheera Mohamed on the topic The Power of Communication. The session provided insights into the importance of communication across various contexts and multicultural environments. In addition to the students, the two accompanying Fikom Untar lecturers, Dr. Ahmad Junaidi and Dr. Diah Ayu Candraningrum, were also given the opportunity to share their expertise as visiting lecturers on the first day of the program.
Before dozens of international students from different countries, Dr. Diah Ayu Candraningrum, commonly known as Sandra, presented a lecture on digital tourism communication. She discussed the development of tourism communication amid digital transformation and the use of digital platforms in building communication strategies and promoting destinations. Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmad Junaidi presented a topic on journalism in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). His presentation explored the transformation of the journalism ecosystem driven by AI technology, as well as the opportunities and challenges faced by journalists and the media industry.
The one-week Student Mobility Program is part of Fikom Untar’s efforts to broaden students’ academic experiences at the international level. Through lectures, cross-cultural interactions, and engagement with students and academics from various countries, participants are expected to expand their global perspectives while building academic and professional networks. The program also strengthens Fikom Untar’s international collaboration with higher education institutions abroad, particularly INTI International University, Malaysia. (AK)
