The 19th Anniversary of the Faculty of Communication Science (Fikom) at Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) is expected to serve as a moment of reflection in preparing for future challenges, including the rapid development of communication technology and artificial intelligence. Therefore, Fikom needs to adapt and, most importantly, collaborate. This message was conveyed by the Secretary of the Tarumanagara Foundation Board, Vedrych J. Kusnanto, S.Kom., M.M., during the celebration held at the Untar Campus, Jakarta, Friday (August 22, 2025).
“An anniversary is not merely about showcasing achievements, but also about reflecting on the steps ahead. Fikom’s role is becoming increasingly vital in the technological era. As Darwin’s theory states, those who survive are those who can adapt,” he explained.
Untar Rector, Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., emphasized that the 19th year marks an important phase for Fikom to continue growing and innovating.
“Achievements, including the excellent accreditation already obtained, are worth being grateful for. However, we must not be complacent because the challenges ahead will be greater, particularly international accreditation. Fikom must strengthen synergy with strategic partners,” he stated.
Dean of Fikom Untar, Dr. Riris Loisa, M.Si., added that at its 19th anniversary, the faculty has introduced a new study program, namely the Master of Communication Science. She further explained that the next step is preparing the Bachelor of Communication Science program for international accreditation.
The anniversary series of events also included the presentation of awards to outstanding students and the launch of the book Masa Depan Komunikasi Publik, Peluang dan Tantangan, a collection of articles written by Fikom Untar lecturers in collaboration with other partner universities.
The event, which was also attended by Tarumanagara Foundation Supervisory Board member Eduard Tjahjadi, Dipl.Eng., who is one of the founders of Fikom Untar, concluded with a music and modern dance performance by students.
Fikom Untar was established on June 22, 2006, with two study programs: the Bachelor of Communication Science, which has achieved excellent accreditation, and the Master of Communication Science, which was newly launched in 2024 (YS).
