Windy @foodirectory Shares at Fikom Untar: “Turning Hobbies into Money”

Jakarta, September 17, 2024 – In mid-September, Fikom once again had a memorable story during a public lecture with influencer Windy Iwandi. Windy, who focuses on culinary, travel, and lifestyle, shares her content on various social media platforms, including Instagram under the handle @foodirectory, which has 220,000 followers and has been active since 2015.

In the Kapita Selekta class, Fikom Untar regularly invites various experts from different fields to speak each week. This week, Fikom Untar invited Windy, an inspiring influencer, to share with Fikom Untar students who are currently working on their final thesis. As they approach graduation, students were given insights about the work of influencers and content creators directly from the expert.

With the theme “Turning Hobbies into Money,” Windy began her talk by sharing the story of how she started posting food and restaurant photos on Instagram. Over time, the Instagram account @foodirectory emerged, which Windy dedicated to creating culinary content. In recent years, she has also started uploading travel and lifestyle content.

The @foodirectory account continued to grow and inspire many people on social media, leading Windy to discover various recipes or formulas for creating popular content. First, she explained that the content she shares is both informative and entertaining. These two types of content need to have relatable value for the audience so that they can feel connected to Windy.

Content Creation Tips

Windy also provided tips for content creation, one of which was “duplicate, modify, and enhance.” Additionally, content that tells a story or applies storytelling techniques can also create engagement with the audience. Storytelling consists of an appetizer, which serves as the title or hook, a main course, which is the story or narrative, and a dessert, which summarizes the entire story and includes a call to action to guide the audience’s decision.

Windy went on to explain that the hook itself is the first 3 seconds that grab the audience’s attention, so the hook must be carefully crafted. This includes aspects like the title, voiceover, trending music, video angles, and lighting. These first 3 seconds can determine whether the audience continues watching the video or ignores it.

“Creating content has a pattern. For example, if the content presents a problem, it must provide a solution in the end. Additionally, there is before-and-after content like the ‘Pandawara’ content, which shows a place full of trash that is later cleaned up. Or monumental content that relates to current situations and conditions,” said Windy.

Popular Content Nowadays

Aside from content patterns, Windy also shared that, “Content that answers people’s curiosity, tutorial content, and collaborative content that builds relationships with others can reach a larger audience. Use reels to gain followers and stories to increase engagement.”

“Take notes, practice makes perfect. If we practice often and observe trending content, we can create better content. Personal branding is also important, not just the content but also your personal profile. Lastly, be consistent! Effort will not betray results. Don’t just seek engagement, be a good content creator,” she added.

Through this public lecture, it is hoped that all students who attended will be inspired and motivated to create creative works, engaging content, and pursue their dreams. Starting from something as simple as doing a hobby, they can reach better places and meet extraordinary people. Like Windy, let’s take a bold step, one inch closer to our dreams! (LI)
