Jakarta, April 29, 2026 — The Faculty of Communication at Universitas Tarumanagara once again held the Seminar Mahasiswa Komunikasi, Industri, dan Masyarakat (SMKIM) 2026, carrying the theme “Building Careers in the Industry: The Synergy of Skills, Experience, and Communication.” This event was specifically designed for sixth-semester FIKOM Untar students who are currently undertaking internships, as a provision to prepare them for entering the professional workforce.
SMKIM 2026 serves as a platform for self-development by integrating three essential aspects required in today’s industry: practical skills, real-world work experience, and effective communication abilities. Through a series of presentations, interactive discussions, and experience-sharing sessions led by practitioners, participants were encouraged to understand industry dynamics while enhancing their career readiness.
The event featured speakers from diverse professional backgrounds who provided comprehensive perspectives on the professional world. Cornelius Valdomero Elleazar, M.Psi., Psychologist, a Psychologist & Junior Officer Development, shared insights on mental readiness and personal development in facing industry challenges. In addition, Dr. Leila Mona Ganiem, M.Si., CPR, CICS, Vice Chairperson of ISKI and an academic, emphasized the importance of strategic communication in building sustainable careers. Also present was Kimberly Surjanto, S.I.Kom., E-commerce Manager at Omnicom Media Group, who shared practical experiences and insights into the dynamics of the digital industry and modern marketing.
SMKIM 2026 was also welcomed by one of Untar’s Faculty of Communication Science lecturers, Dr. Ahmad Junaidi, S.S., M.Si., who stated that the event was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and the professional world.
“Students are not only required to possess theoretical knowledge, but also to apply it in real-life situations and communicate their ideas and perspectives professionally,” he said.
The SMKIM 2026 program also highlights the importance of collaboration between knowledge, practical application, and real action in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By encouraging students to not only understand theoretical concepts but also implement them through hands-on experience and meaningful contributions during their internships, the program fosters a holistic approach to career development. This synergy is expected to shape graduates who are not only industry-ready but also socially responsible and capable of contributing to sustainable development.
Throughout the event, participants gained valuable insights, ranging from the development of soft skills such as interpersonal communication and teamwork, to strategies for building personal branding and navigating workplace challenges. In addition, students’ internship experiences became a key focus of discussion, allowing them to share lessons learned and reflections with one another.
Through the implementation of SMKIM 2026, Fikom Untar hopes that students can optimize their internship experiences as a first step toward building sustainable careers. This event also reflects FIKOM Untar’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically competent but also ready to compete in an ever-evolving industry. (FD)
