Fikom Untar Empowers Belitung Regency MSMEs through Marketing and Public Speaking Workshops

Belitung, May 18, 2026 – The Faculty of Communication Sciences of Tarumanagara University (Fikom Untar) took part in a Community Service Program organized by the Institute for Research and Community Service of Tarumanagara University (LPPM Untar) at the UPT PLUT UMKM Belitung Regency from May 18 to 21, 2026. The program involved 80 MSME participants from the culinary, fashion, and craft sectors as part of efforts to enhance the capacity and competitiveness of local businesses.

The event was officially opened and attended by the Vice Regent of Belitung, Syamsir, Head of the Belitung Regency Office of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, Trade, and Manpower, Annyta, Head of UPT PLUT KUKM Belitung Regency, Fita Elyana, Head of LPPM Untar, Hetty Karunia Tunjungsari, and Dean of Fikom Untar, Sinta Paramita.

The event was officially opened and attended by the Vice Regent of Belitung Regency, Syamsir, S.I.Kom., the Head of the Office of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, Trade, and Manpower of Belitung Regency, Annyta, S.P., M.I.L., the Head of UPT PLUT KUKM of Belitung Regency, Fita Elyana, S.Akun., the Director of LPPM Untar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hetty Karunia Tunjungsari, S.E., M.Si., and the Dean of Fikom Untar, Dr. Sinta Paramita, S.I.P., M.A.

On the first day of the program, Fikom Untar presented several faculty leaders and lecturers as speakers, including the Dean of Fikom Untar, Dr. Sinta Paramita, S.I.P., M.A., Head of the Undergraduate Communication Studies Program, Dr. Wulan Purnama Sari, S.I.Kom., M.Si., Secretary of the Studies Program, Septia Winduwati, S.Sos., M.Si., and Manager of Research and Community Service of Fikom Untar, Lydia Irena, S.I.Kom., M.Si.

The materials delivered focused on strengthening communication skills and utilizing digital technology for business development. The activities included workshops on viral marketing and artificial intelligence (AI) literacy, as well as training in persuasive communication and public speaking for MSME participants.

The viral marketing session discussed strategies for creating engaging and relevant content capable of reaching wider audiences through digital media. Meanwhile, AI literacy was introduced to help MSME participants understand the use of artificial intelligence technology in supporting promotion, content creation, and business development in a more effective and efficient manner.

In addition, persuasive communication and public speaking training were conducted to improve participants’ abilities in building consumer trust, delivering convincing promotional messages, and strengthening their business image before the public and customers.

Participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the activities. MSME participants actively engaged in discussions and took part in various practices and simulations guided by the speakers. The positive responses from participants reflected the high demand for practical communication and digital literacy training to support business development.

Through its involvement in this program, Fikom Untar once again reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the tridharma of higher education, particularly in supporting community empowerment through strengthening communication competencies and digital technology adaptation for MSMEs. (LI)
