SMKIM 2026: Fikom Untar Emphasizes Community Engagement as Key to Connecting with Youth

Jakarta, April 28, 2026 — The Faculty of Communication at Universitas Tarumanagara (Fikom Untar) successfully held SMKIM 2026, carrying the theme “Collaboration of Knowledge, Practice, and Action Toward SDGs.” In the second session of SMKIM 2026, “Community Engagement as a Collaborative Approach to Reaching the Younger Generation” became the main highlight. The event took place at the Auditorium of Building M, 8th Floor, Campus 1 Untar, and was attended by fourth-semester Fikom Untar students.

This event was designed as an interactive learning platform that integrates academic perspectives with professional practices in the field of communication. SMKIM 2026 featured experienced speakers from various sectors who shared in-depth insights on the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in addressing the dynamics of communication in the modern era. The speakers included Wisnu Nugroho, VP of Sustainability at Kompas Gramedia; Karina Saridewi, Director & Co-Founder of WeNetwork; and Joedea Aris Theofilus from the Office of the Vice Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in the field of Communication & Media.

During this session, the speakers emphasized the importance of building authentic engagement with communities as an effective communication strategy. The younger generation is considered more responsive to approaches that are participatory, inclusive, and grounded in shared values. Through this discussion, students were encouraged to understand that communication is no longer one-way, but requires active collaboration among various stakeholders, including communities, brands, and institutions. A community-based approach is seen as capable of fostering stronger and more sustainable relationships with young audiences.

“Regardless of the size of the community, it is still something to be proud of, as it plays an important role in developing various individual soft skills,” Karina conveyed to Fikom Untar students.

SMKIM 2026 is expected to serve as an inspiring platform for students to develop critical thinking and practical skills in communication, while also encouraging the emergence of innovative ideas that are relevant to current societal needs. (KG)
